In Loving Memory of
Space Shuttle - The Hand of Creation - by Eric S. Kingston

The Hand of Creation Written in lasting memory, Commander Rick D. Husband, Pilot William C. McCool, Payload Specialist Michael P. Anderson, Mission Specialist Kalpana Chawla, Mission Specialist David M. Brown, Mission Specialist Laurel B. Clark, Payload Specialist Ilan Ramon, Israel ''The same creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return safely to Earth but we can pray they are safely home.'' President George W. Bush They saw the stars and the Eternal Face of Heaven. Everywhere they saw pieces of the Creator. In the solar system in which they flew they say the glory of creation, the body of being, the eyes of the stars. They heard the voice of the galaxy. They saw comets run with white and blue fire and disperse among the oceans of G-d’s great creation. The immenseness of the galaxy and the simple blue and white of the stars of all being was around them. It was if they saw everything but the Hand of G-d Himself. But now they were returning from where they had came, but they were not the same as they were as they descended back towards the earth. And As they entered the stratosphere of the planet their ship began to tremble. And they became afraid, even among the certainly of the stars. Suddenly, a flash of light appeared unto them and there clothed in stardust and luminous lights was G-d’s Angel and a calm descended upon them. Before they could speak the Angle look upon them and asked: “What did you see among the vast regions of Creation?” They answered, “We saw the glory of being, the vastness and gentle beauty of the stars and colors of the celestial skies. It was if we saw the body of creation, and heard the song of the galaxy. But most of all it was if we saw the very parts and essence of He who created all being and come what may, we are grateful for that which has been our lives.” The ship trembled more, but the Angel was moved by what was spoken and said unto them, “For the beauty of thy words and the praise within your hearts you have been blessed and given a last moment to reflect upon the memories of your lives.” At first each saw their own lives, their own families, their own lands. They hung their heads and wept when they thought of their lives, but suddenly they remembered the vastness of the stars and wideness and gentle beauty of the skies. They turned and looked at each other. Not as individuals. Not as black and white, male and female, but as interconnected pieces of a work much higher then themselves. And the struggles and differences of mankind, past and present, was before them. And they realized that the struggles and sacrifices of the good people throughout all of history were just struggles to see the world and the univers and each other as they were seeing each other now. And they remembered great words... That this nation of the people, by the people, for the people Before you is the Blessing and the curse, therefore choose life No man becomes a Shepard who is not a profit first The Kingdom of G-d is within And then they joined hands and spoke their own words written as light upon the sky When you cannot see the planets for your too close to the stars And the glory and the wonder touch the soul of what you are When the bodies of the Heavens touch all that you have known You can “touch the face of G-d” for surely you are home So do not mourn for us for we’re with the wonders of the sky The Creator of all being whose Breath enlivened you and I We are the Summer Solstice and nebulas you see We are reaching for the Hand of Him who made life into dream We’re now in every constellation on the bright side of the moon We’re the stardust of the galaxies and the equinox of noon And when you see a comet we’ll be writing in the sky - Love more among each other while you still have the time - For our lives are but memory in the orbit of your days A universe where we converse among the words you pray For the light years of the heavens are holding all we’ve sown We will not be as you knew us, but we are safely home We will not be as you knew us, but we are safely home And as they spoke they became spirit and light, and below the people of the Earth saw the balls of light in the sky. Each hovering above the earth for its final moment and then “He commanded the skies and opened up the Heavens” and then, as spirit and light, they saw It, and they reached out towards It and It towards them and touching the Hand of G-d they went safely home again.
