In Loving Memory of
Leonard Swanson
Leonard grew up in and around Lincoln, with five sisters, and three brothers. He often spoke about the period when they lived in Yankee Hill. The stories were about the good meals his Mom made even with the large family and hard times. You can well imagine with Nine kids there are many funny and mischievious stories. When Leonard came of age he went into the Army and served, during that time he met his wife who he was very dedicated to. He spoke of retiring and the two of them going all over, as Leonard love to travel and see things. Unfortunately Pat passed before those dreams could be lived, but Leonard did retire and still went to some nice places, which he came home and proudly told us of seeing. He loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Denver Broncos.
Leonard was very dedicated to the Lord , and there was never a day we don’t recall him studying or reading his Bible, and sharing with us things he learned. He especially spoke highly of Applewood Baptist, and the people in his church family. He would talk of how he enjoyed his Sunday school, the sermons Pastor gave, and the ball club.
Leonard enjoyed making one or two trips a year to his Nieces farm in Nebraska; he loved her home cook meals, seeing the family in the area. He would always invite his sister and niece who also reside in Denver along. We would all get down there and share many laughs, and teasing one another. Leonard had a good sense of humor, was compassionate and generous. If you needed help, and he could help you then you could count on him. He was a great Husband, Brother, Uncle, and Friend, we will all miss the good times with him. His Niece Terri speaks of how she will miss the walks, talks and rides. The discussions about the Bible, and how no matter what sort of question she came up with, he had an answer. Leonard had a very large extended family including great Nieces and Nephews that will also miss him, as he was fun to be around. His Sister Doris and Niece Lori will miss the weekly Sunday trip to visit, grow a garden, watch the birds who would lay eggs on his patio…He would always enjoy us going out to eat together, so he did not have to eat alone. We will miss him deeply, and feel a little lost without him, but this is not Goodbye this is just a temporary separation till we too one day are with him and rest of our lost loved ones again.
Friday December 22, 2006 he tried to shovel after our blizzard and we could not reach him. We called sheriff dept and they found him dead out in snow on a shovel face down.
