My book is based on letters my mother and father wrote from 1942-1944. My father was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. He parachuted behind German lines on D- Day and fought through the hedgerows of France. He jumped into Holland for Operation Market Gaarden, the series of battles on which the book and film, A Bridge Too Far, is based.
My father was killed in action September 22, 1944. I never knew him, and I knew my mother only as a sad widow. I had no brothers or sisters. I always felt different, cheated, angry. Writing my book has helped me to learn that relationships are forever; love never fails. I believe my book would help others on their journey toward healing. From the author - Sandra Thompson
